This was not on my bingo card.

When craft non-alcoholic beer was getting more popular in the late 2010s, I can’t say I predicted that in a few short years we’d have a limited edition craft NA as a marketing tie-in to a Netflix adaptation of a novel (and video game). That being said, I couldn’t have predicted a bunch of stuff that’s happened over the past few years, so here we are.

In general, I’m a big fan of all pale lagers, including those of the German Helles style. The mix of drinkability and complexity is downright lovely to me, so I’m happy that we got another option from the biggest name in craft NA beer. This particular brew opens with notes of watermelon, peach, hop florals, and hop spice on the nose. There’s also a slight bubblegum note, mildly surprising given that wheat is not a major component (bubblegum aromas and flavors often appear more in wheat beers). On the palate, I got a nice blend of bitterness and maltiness with some light citrus, light hop spice, and a little bit of peach. Athletic doesn’t disappoint in delivering at least a solid medium body in all of their beers, and this is no exception.

Geralt’s Gold finishes dry and crisp, with some moderate-low persistent bitterness. Overall, it’s a great beer for craft lager fans, and quite frankly I wish it wasn’t a limited edition brew. Get it while it’s here.
